Pleated Necessity.

5.17.2014

Proenza Schouler Resort SS14 | Dior RTW SS14 | Céline RTW SS14

Legs. If there was ever a touchy subject.

With three consecutive days of Summer sun under our belts already this week; my aversion to whipping out my sparrow-like and pasty looking pins had started to waver. Of course, what I think may look resort ready in the bedroom mirror, may not always be the case once placed among the opinionated public.

Milk bottles? Please.

Saving my gallant efforts for the day when white becomes the 'new tan' - this season brings forward a new savour; ready and willing to take those reluctant enough not to go bare-legged, straight ahead of the Spring/Summer fash-pack.

Injecting playful personalities into what essentially is a firm favourite amongst many a librarian; the pleated skirt is back for 2014 and is fast becoming the piece of the current season.
Modern pleats whose fold is feminine and liquid in movement; they came adorned with bold brush strokes down the runway of Céline, asymmetrically cut away at Christian Dior and shimmering divinely in metallic finishes at Proenza Schouler - yet all the while covering up just the right amount of unwanted limb.

For an item that so fluidly moves throughout Spring's entire wardrobe; I'll be teaming mine with the slouchiest of knits (the sloppier the better) and my new found love affair aka those white Birks.

Now, let's see who's got something to say about my ankles...

Inventive Forms Collection - COS

Minimalism.

Go on, say it again... m i n i m a l i s m.
Feel how effortlessly it just rolls off the tongue?

Clearly we've stumbled upon my favourite word and well, the love affair I have with anything unadulterated just doesn't stop there.

Holding fluid lines and contemporary fabrics together within an empirical colour palette. It bet minimalism is COS's favourite word too.

Vlada Saulchenkova by Alvaro Beamud for Glamour France May 2014.

Oversized, unbuttoned and très décolleté. Just how we like it.

Glamour, I'm impressed.

In my experience there have always been two kinds of women who wear white denim.
The 'mature' woman who loves a good annual pair of pure white jeans to see her through Spring/Summer, customarily worn with some form of pastel or striped accompaniment. And, those women who see white denim as the ultimate staple item when enhancing their seasonal tans - be them fake or not.

Sadly (Is it?) I can't say that I've ever come under either category. For me, white denim will forever remain a wardrobe must-have for the sun-kissed, older woman I can only hope to one day aspire to be...

Or so I thought.

Age and bronzing aside; recently there's been a sudden urge for me to delve into the unexplored world of white denim and to be truthful, I think I like it.

Slim-legged, sophisticated and possibly ripped at the knees? Don't be surprised if you see my pale behind strutting in a pair of white jeans any time soon - I just hope you realise I've not gone and left the house sans trouser.

Topshop x Adidas Originals

3.13.2014

I personally would like to thank Phoebe Philo for the recent resurgence of the classic Stan Smith sneaker and sports luxe at that. If it wasn't for her, women everywhere would be wearing flip flops, peep-toe sandals and (heaven forbid) skyscraper heels this Spring.

Yes, I know.

For those who took notice of what the sartorial élite were wearing during fashion week, you'd discover that sportswear, particularly anything branded Adidas, has become somewhat of a fashion obsession and is well on its way to establishing itself as the outfit of choice for Spring/Summer.
I'm talking sneakers, pool slides, joggers... the lot.
Just as well then that Topshop have announced that it's first capsule collection with Adidas Originals will launch in stores and online on the 20th March.

(Calendars? Noted? Good.)

The highly anticipated collection, which pays homage to the brands heritage, comes complete with the brand's signature triple stripe and trefoil, whilst combining the youthful and feminine influence of Topshop. Sportswear that will make even the toughest of workouts look like a walk in flower-laden, picnic filled park. If you catch my drift.

Amassing no more than 20 pieces and at a cost that will still see us through to payday; come the 20th, make sure you've booked your space in the queue outside Toppers, or well, just loaded up your basket online.

Mule. Muler. Mulest.

3.11.2014

 | Left to Right - Tibi || 3.1 Phillip Lim || Tibi |

My morning went a little something like this...

7:30am Wake up.
7:31am Locate phone.
7:33am Go online and purchase a pair of the sleekest, black mules in a size 5.
7:36am Resume sleeping.

Clearly my subconscious has been in yearning for another pair of shoes since the pool slide incident (which arrived this morning) and to be fair I can't blame her.
Making key appearances across countless SS14 catwalks; the 1990's influenced 'It' shoe, better known as the Mule, has been busy establishing itself as everybody's must-have shoe for Spring and ultimately our newest wardrobe staple.

Teaming with crisp, clean whites (Tibi) or minimal layers; the mule makes some serious headway when it comes to effortless seasonal dressing. Let's just hope mine arrive before the sun regains consciousness and realises it's mistake of shining down over the UK.
