There is it. It happened. 

Fashion went and poked around your teenage wardrobe and stamped a big fat 'ANCIENT' sign all over it.

No not the 90's, that's been done (I'm not there just yet). I'm talking about the era of the socialites who socialised face to face or via a Nokia 3310 (always.) Us early naughties girls who considered a triple-tiered skirt, spaghetti-strap top and even strappier sandals the go-to of the new millennia. 

Jesus has it been that long?

Of course, fashion will always love a good dose of subcultural nostalgia. But with style in the 00's proving that the 00's should just stay within THE 00's - there's only one thing to do when designers drag them back out again.

(re)Introducing the denim bustier. Hated it back then. Love it now. Too sexy to swing about solo for a girl of 16 and even 26. However, layer it over a simple white tee or a crisp white shirt and team with simple lace-ups and you've brought the Miss Sixty's signature straight into 2015.

Nothing says 'As snug as bug in a credit-denting rug' quite like a Burberry Prorsum cape; an adult-sized security blanket with optional monogramming? Christopher Bailey - the man melting into our childhood memories of absolute content since 2014.

Cutting straight to the 'however' - whilst my bank account permits luxuriating in its cashmere and colour-blocked coating strictly during store opening hours; at present a more cost-effective alternative will just about do.

Boasting rich autumnal colour tones and shaping up silhouettes with ingenious layering; not only is the cape the key piece for perfectly executing trans-seasonal dressing, but also provides us Brit gals with some stylishly utilitarian leverage over the unpredictable weather. 

And so as the high-street begin to roll out a plethora of it's very own caped crusaders; once I've found the 'one', I'll be balancing out the layers with a streamlined look of roll-neck and skinny fitted trouser - thigh-skimming booties wouldn't go a miss too.

But for the moment, here's to (enduring) enjoying what's left of the British Summer...

Legs. If there was ever a touchy subject. 

With three consecutive days of Summer sun under our belts already this week; my aversion to whipping out my sparrow-like and pasty looking pins had started to waver. Of course, what I think may look resort ready in the bedroom mirror, may not always be the case once placed among the opinionated public.

Milk bottles? Please.

Saving my gallant efforts for the day when white becomes the 'new tan' - this season brings forward a new savour; ready and willing to take those reluctant enough not to go bare-legged, straight ahead of the Spring/Summer fash-pack.

Injecting playful personalities into what essentially is a firm favourite amongst many a librarian; the pleated skirt is back for 2014 and is fast becoming the piece of the current season.

 Modern pleats whose fold is feminine and liquid in movement; they came adorned with bold brush strokes down the runway of Céline, asymmetrically cut away at Christian Dior and shimmering divinely in metallic finishes at Proenza Schouler - yet all the while covering up just the right amount of unwanted limb.

For an item that so fluidly moves throughout Spring's entire wardrobe; I'll be teaming mine with the slouchiest of knits (the sloppier the better) and my new found love affair aka those white Birks.

And suddenly all I want to do is anything but get dressed.

I think I've found my Wang?

I can't say that I've ever been a girl who encourages a bit of kitsch into her wardrobe.

I love NY about as much as I love a doner kebab at four in the morning and THAT is saying something.

The very idea of taking a crisp, clean tee and murdering it with a cheesy slogan or garish image...   cue convulsions ( bit dramatic?)

Then again there's always a first for everything and when I say everything, I mean e v e r y t h i n g.

Call it a new found guilty pleasure; the understated t-shirts and sweats from European label Civissum may just be the key to opening up my motto loving heart.

I am a, or Ich Bin Ein respectively, allows you to choose just which hip and possibly happening city you'd like to hail from, all with the addition of a quirky little 'er'.

Ingenious.

With a price point of no more than 80 euros; now you can flaunt it like a Stockholmer living in a Bricklaner and all without the I LOVE STHLM.

Menswear. For reason's I'm not quite clear on, I find the opposite sex's style of dress so much more appealing than that of womens.

Perhaps it's because sartorially, men are more limited than us girls, and we all know that limits give way for deeper thinking. That, or I've spent way too much time googling male models.... Who knows? Whatever the reason, as a first for Forty Five, allow me to introduce a new label to the menswear scene and one to remember...

FINELINER

 A name, a brand, a concept and even an art form. A label, dare I say it, set for sartorial domination.

The brainchild of a group of designers/friends from right here 'Up North', who together have fused their creative talents and sheer love for all things arty, to produce a line of men's clothing catered for the fashion-forward male. (Or female - here's hoping)

Or to put it simply, that kick that casual menswear needed.

"Deriving from the fineliner pen - the link that combines all external artistic elements, giving the brand a common ground and the basis for what is going to be an upbeat, upcoming and innovative T-shirt and sweat brand"

Seizing the opportunity to stand out from the crowd; Fineliner's debut range showcases products that are right at the centre of contemporary design. Taking clear inspiration from various cultural backgrounds and modern society; each piece cleverly incorporates some sort of handmade illustration from one of the designers. My morning went a little something like this...

7:30am Wake up.

7:31am Locate phone.

7:33am Go online and purchase a pair of the sleekest, black mules in a size 5.

7:36am Resume sleeping.

Clearly my subconscious has been in yearning for another pair of shoes since the pool slide incident (which arrived this morning) and to be fair I can't blame her. 

Making key appearances across countless SS14 catwalks; the 1990's influenced 'It' shoe, better known as the Mule, has been busy establishing itself as everybody's must-have shoe for Spring and ultimately our newest wardrobe staple.

Teaming with crisp, clean whites (Tibi) or minimal layers; the mule makes some serious headway when it comes to effortless seasonal dressing. Let's just hope mine arrive before the sun regains consciousness and realises it's mistake of shining down over the UK.
